Matthew Redfern will make his Paralympic debut at the Paris Paralympics after coming back out of retirement in 2022 with a renewed focus to contribute to the project of Great Britain’s visually impaired relays.
On achieving his first senior selection for Great Britain at the Madeira 2022 World Para Swimming Championships, Redfern was part of the bronze medal winning Mixed 49pts 4x100m Freestyle Relay quartet. A year later at the Manchester 2023 world championships Matthew competed in his first individual event on the world stage, placing 9th in the S13 100m Backstroke, in addition to his role with the relay team.
Matthew has a degenerative eye condition known as retinitis pigmentosa, the same condition as his younger sister Rebecca Redfern who is set to become a three-time Paralympian at Paris 2024.
Away from the pool Mathew is a fan of Kidderminster Harriers football club and works as a Senior Operations Analyst at a Hospitality Intelligence company in Worcester.
