Olivia Federici secured a final berth as the British Synchronised Swimming team began their LEN European Aquatic Championship campaign on day one of the event in London.
Making her international debut in the Solo Free event, Federici delivered a solid prelim swim to secure herself a place in the Final on Tuesday.
Federici said, “It feels really great to open the British campaign at the European Championship and feels amazing to be back at the Olympic pool.”
The event sees synchro return to the venue on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the first time since the Olympic Games in 2012.
Federici took to the pool 19th in the opening session of the synchro event. Her Solo Free routine showed power and movement across the pool as she performed her James Bond themed routine in front of the home crowd.
She recorded a preliminary score of 82.0333 to progress through to the final.
“I’ve never done solo internationally before and so this is a new challenge but so enjoyable,” Federici added.
“It felt like a really good opening swim but I’m eager to get back to pool, look at the video analysis and make those improvements so I can step it up for the final.”
Federici's score sees her ranked ninth going into tomorrow afternoon’s final where she will line up against 2015 World Champion Natalia Ishchenko of Russia and the defending bronze medallist Anna Voloshyna of Ukraine.
