Aquatics GB is pleased to confirm the appointment of Nili Safavi to its Board as a new Independent Non-Executive Director.
In line with the aim to strengthen the organisation’s skillset across environmental and social sustainability, Nili has a strong career with considerable expertise in this field. She brings this valuable experience into the organisation, and her appointment coincides with the recent launch of Aquatics GB’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
In her current role as BP's Vice President for Social Sustainability, Nili is responsible for setting the vision, direction and implementation for BP across social sustainability.
She previously worked for Det Norske Veritas (DNV) as Senior Sustainability Consultant, advising clients from a broad range of industries on managing environmental, climate-related and societal issues, risks and impacts. Prior to this, she worked at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, where she focused on protecting human rights in humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters.
Speaking about her appointment to the Board, Nili said: "I am super excited to take on this Non-Executive Director role with Aquatics GB and feel honoured to have been appointed. I have tremendous respect for what the organisation is trying to achieve in elite sport, and the power this has to impact and influence sustainability and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion). I hope to be able to share my knowledge and experience in this area, as well as learn from Aquatics GB and my fellow Board members."
Aquatics GB Chair Karen Webb Moss added: "I am delighted to welcome Nili to the Aquatics GB Board. She has led an impressive career and has an incredible background across multiple key areas, providing rich experience in ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) which we were specifically looking for to enhance our strategic leadership at Board level.
"In the water, our athletes are putting the final touches to their preparations ahead of what we know will be a summer of outstanding performances across the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and at the same time, we are focused on the continuing difference we can make out of the pool. This is where Nili's experience and insight will help us, as we build on our new Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, both of which we are immensely proud."
