British Swimming's Chief Executive David Sparkes attended the iSportconnect and the British Olympic Association's Director's Club - Olympic Special.
iSportconnect and the British Olympic Association hosted an engaging and unparalleled Directors’ Club – Olympic Special in London yesterday which marked the end of the London 2012 Olympiad and imminent start of the Rio 2016 Games.
It brought together a unique and unprecedented line-up of the leading figures involved in the planning and delivery of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The panellists for the event included Baroness Tessa Jowell, Sparkes, Sir Craig Reedie, Sir Hugh Robertson, Sir Keith Mills, , Bill Sweeney, Dave Gordon and Adidas’ Lee Gibbons.
The panels were expertly moderated by Michael Pirrie, former Executive Adviser to the London 2012 Olympic Organising committee and chairman Seb Coe.
The opening section of the event saw Baroness Tessa Jowell, Sir Hugh Robertson, Sir Craig Reedie and Sir Keith Mills tell the story of the London 2012 Games; the bid, delivery, legacy and success factors for London 2012.
The second section of the event looked at the landscape, preparations and expectations for the next Olympic Games in Rio, which are now less than a month away.
It featured a panel including Bill Sweeney CEO of the BOA, Senior Director of Adidas Lee Gibbons, Former Major Head of Events at the BBC Dave Gordon and David Sparkes General Secretary of LEN (European Swimming).
It was more focused on the future and issues such as sponsorship and broadcasting, while also reflecting on the legacy of the London Games.
The attendee list included representatives from the IOC, Premier League, Adidas, Discovery, Barclays, ITF, World Olympians Association, AEG Sports, Commonwealth Games, PwC, Vodaphone, International Hockey Federation, Sport England, International e-Games Group, British Rowing and many more.
