Murdoch traces five-year old swimming fan

University of Stirling swimmer Ross Murdoch was delighted to have found the owner of a letter sent to him by a young fan and is looking forward to meeting up with him.

The letter was sent by five-year old Brian who addressed it simply as “Ross Murdoch, Commonwealth Champion, Balloch”.

Murdoch said: “I was really surprised that the letter got to me with just my name on it. It’s fantastic that Royal Mail were able to forward it on to the right place.

“Brian had obviously enjoyed drawing the pictures he sent to me but because he didn’t include any information about where he lived I didn’t know how to get in contact. So I asked for help on Twitter and 24 hours later his parents had been in touch.

“We are now hopefully going to meet up in Stirling so I can show him the pool.”

Brian, who loves swimming, sent the letter after the Commonwealth Games where Murdoch won gold in the 200m Breaststroke and bronze in the 100m Breaststroke.

Murdoch added: “The Glasgow Commonwealth Games was meant to leave a legacy and it’s great that the younger generation has been inspired by what we did in the pool.”
