Peaty named World and European Swimmer of the Year

1 Dec 2015

Triple World Champion Adam Peaty has been announced as World and European Swimmer of the Year by Swimming World Magazine.

It is the first time a British swimmer has been given the honour after finishing runner up to Hosake Hagino (Japan) in 2014 and is the first European athlete to win since 2000 when Pieter Van Den Hoogenband (NED) won.

Peaty has enjoyed an incredible year with three world records and three world titles to his name. At the British Championships in April he was the first man to go beneath 58 seconds for the 100m Breaststroke.

He also knocked the 50m Breaststroke standard down to 26.42 seconds after Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) lowered Peaty’s record in the heats.

The City of Derby swimmer has won back-to-back European Swimmer of the Year titles.

Peaty has also been shortlisted for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award.

Double World Champion James Guy secured fourth place in the rankings for European Swimmer of the Year after he won gold in the 200m Freestyle and the 4x200m Freestyle Relay and silver in the 400m Freestyle. Guy impressed the swimming world by beating Sun Yang and Paul Biedermann to the wall in the 200m.
