Loughborough National Centre swimmer James Wilby said he was 'surprised' to take the gold in the 200m breaststroke at the EISM. Inc British Championships.
Wilby beat reigning champion Ross Murdoch on day two at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, which again saw rising talent challenge the established names.
He said: ““It was a bIt of a surprise to be honest.
“I was practising a few new things so was pretty happy with how it went.”
In the men’s 400m Freestyle Jay Lelliott from the City of Sheffield, beat British record holder James Guy into second place, with Dan Jervis followed his 1,500m freestyle title yesterday with bronze.
Lelliot, who has only recently moved to the City of Sheffield said: “It’s nice to hear British Champion, I’ve never been that before! I just wish I could have gone quicker.”
In the women’s 100m breaststroke Chloe Tutton took the British title, Hollie Hibbot won the 800m freestyle and Lucy Hope took her second gold of the meet, the Women’s 50m freestyle, and admitted after last night’s skins event that the victory had “hurt a lot.”
But the experienced swimmers weren’t going to let the young stars take all the glory.
Siobhan-Marie O’Connor took on her first of two finals in under 30 minutes, winning the women’s 200m IM ahead of Loughborough University’s Abbie Wood into silver medal position and Aberdeen Performance’s Hannah Miley took the bronze.
Siobhan said: “I’m really pleased with the swims I have done here and delighted to have won with some amazing girls.
“It’s been a really good week but now I’m looking forward to going and making my final preparations for the Commonwealth Games”
And it was a return to the gold medal position for Chris Walker-Hebborn in the men’s 100m backstroke with Luke Greenback and Brodie Williams also earning podium places.
University of Edinburgh’s Lizzie Simmonds won the women’s 200m backstroke with Kat Greenslade winning silver – after yesterday’s gold in the 200m freestyle – with Jess Fullalove in bronze medal position.
And James Guy won his second gold of the meet, taking the Men’s 50m butterfly.
He added: “There was a lot of hard racing there – I’m happy with how it’s gone.
“I was listening to Craig David when I came out to get me pumped up, he’s been my favourite for a long time!”
