Haslam, Heatly and Torrance impress on day one

Ross Haslam and James Heatly showed promise on the opening day of the FINA World Championships by reaching the final of the Men’s 1m Springboard.

The pair are the first divers to make a 1m Springboard final since Pete Waterfield in 2009 and will return to the boards at Duna Arena on Sunday afternoon to contest for the World Championship podium.

Haslam finished in eighth place with a score of 367.60 while Heatly finished ninth with a total of 364.00.

Haslam’s best dive was his Front 3 ½ Somersaults tucked which scored 69.00 while Heatly scored 69.70 for his Inward 3 ½ Somersaults piked. 

Katherine Torrance became the first woman to make a 1m Springboard final since Rebecca Gallantree in 2009 after impressing in the prelim.

Torrance finished in eighth place with a score of 255.60 points.

Torrance scored 54.60 for her Front 2 1/2 Somersaults piked to help secure her final spot. 

The Women's 10m Final will take place on Saturday 15th at 3pm (GMT) and the Men's 1m Final will take place on Sunday 16th at 2:30pm (GMT).
