Matty Lee and Lois Toulson won the British Diving Team’s first medal of the FINA World Championships after they took silver in the Mixed 10m Synchro event.
The pair moved up from sixth place with some consistent dives and really showed their skill in the fourth round with a score of 76.80 for their Inward 3 ½ Somersaults tucked.
Lee and Toulson concluded the competition with 79.68 points on their Back 2 ½ Somersaults 1 ½ Twists piked and finished with a total of 323.28 points.
“We feel really good right now,” Lee said. “China are so strong and it’s tough to beat them but we knew we just had to keep calm and focus on ourselves. It feels so great to win that silver medal.
“it was amazing to win that silver in this competition,” Toulson said. “We’re a really good partnership, we both train in the same place and we’re really good friends which really helps.”
Gold went to China’s Qian Ren and Junjie Lian with a score of 352.98 and bronze was won by Rae Kim Mi and Myong Hyon II (North Korea) with a score of 318.12.Jack Laugher and Chris Mears just missed out on a medal after finishing in fourth place in the 3m Synchro.
The pair were within touching distance of a medal but dropped marks on their final two dives which meant they finished with a score of 418.20.
Katherine Torrance finished in ninth place overall in the women's 1m Springboard with a total score of 275.90.
