It was a successful morning in the pool for the British Swimming team on the second day of the FINA World Championships in Budapest as all six athletes’ progressed from heats to semi-finals.
Kathleen Dawson (University of Stirling) set a new season’s best of 59.88 to book herself into tonight’s Women’s 100m Backstroke semi-finals after she ranked 8th fastest.
“It was a bit painful but I’m pleased with that,” said Dawson. “To come out and do a season’s best on my first swim at my first World Championships is a good start. I’m really looking forward to the semi-final tonight.
“It’s so loud in there but it’s amazing to race in front of such a big crowd.”
Team mate Georgia Davies (Loughborough University) will join her in the semi-finals after she qualified 11th fastest.
The Women’s 100m Breaststroke saw another debut as Sarah Vasey (National Centre Loughborough) lined up in the sixth heat alongside Britain’s Siobhan-Marie O’Connor (National Centre Bath) and both delivered semi-final spots.
Great Britain had two swimmers in the 200m Freestyle heats with James Guy (Bath National Centre) and Duncan Scott (University of Stirling). Guy qualified second fastest and Scott posted the seventh quickest time to ensure he will be back in the Duna Arena pool this evening.
After the race Scott said: “A bit of a tough swim but I’m pretty happy with that, I’ve done my job and into the semi-final tonight.”
“It will be a tight semi-final but I’ve just got to try my best to get to the final, there’s no holding back tonight for sure. It’s the first time I’ve raced the 200m internationally so I’m just taking one race at a time.”
