Team GB’s Grace Reid secured a spot in the Women’s 3m Springboard final in Rio as she continued her Olympic Games debut.
Reid opened the semi-finals with two solid dives and scored 135.75.
Her best dive was in the second round, a Front 3½ Somersaults piked, which scored 69.75.
Bettering her points total from the prelims she finished with an overall score of 314.25 to confirm her finals berth.
In doing so she made history by being the first British woman to reach a 3m Olympic final since Alison Drake in 1972.
Reid said: “It feels amazing, a bit surreal, but I knew it was a possibility and I knew I had to dive well to do it [get into the final] and I just wanted to enjoy it because I know when I am happy I dive well and I dived well.
“As soon as I was finished I was chatting about little bits and pieces [to improve]. I want to have a little bit more sparkle and a bit more sharpness, which I can hopefully find so I can improve on my score."Reid will return to the boards at the Maria Lenk Aquatics stadium for the final tomorrow.
