The swimmers have arrived in the village ahead of competition beginning on Saturday 6 August and have been sharing how their preparations have been going.
Team Leader Chris Spice, Head Coach Bill Furniss, James Guy, Hannah Miley and Andrew Willis took part in the pre-Games press conference to talk about their excitement about the Games about to begin.
Scottish swimmer, Miley, is competing at her third Olympic Games and feels that this one has a different feeling.
“You always want to be the best you can be so every time I go into race I try to prove that. I’m going into this competition a lot more relaxed and a lot happier with how things are going for me in training and how things have gone in racing. "
“All the competition between Olympics are experiences and opportunities to learn from and they have put me in a better position each time. Going into these Games I feel a lot older and wiser and a lot more ready and prepared.”
Guy will be experiencing his first taste of Olympic racing on Saturday but is not letting past success be his focus and he prepares to race.
“The World title is a nice title to hold but that was last year and that’s in the past but it will always be remembered in my heart,” Guy said. “I’m excited now we’re here and I am ready to race. It’s the biggest event of my life and I’ve trained my whole life for this event and it’s getting closer and closer and soon it’s Games time.”
Furniss has been happy with how preparations have gone over at the holding camp and knows the team are in a relaxed place ahead of the start of competition.
“We flew in yesterday on just a short flight from Belo Horizonte so we had plenty of time to acclimatise both to the time zone and pushing back to the later start time for heats and finals at this competition.”
“Both Chris and I are very pleased with how the camp went. We kept it very relaxed, very focused and everything is looking as good as it can and we’re looking forward to competition starting.
“We have a more focused team this year. We’ve done a lot of work in the last three and a half years on resilience. The team compete a lot more now and I think they are a lot more race ready.”
