Great Britain’s senior women’s water polo team will be looking to continue their journey towards international success as they take part in the World Aquatics Women’s Water Polo World Cup Division 2 in Berlin this week.
The event runs from 2nd-4th May and will see the British cohort pit against New Zealand, Kazakhstan and Germany in their initial rounds of matches.
The team’s appearance follows the men’s side – who took to international competition last month for the first time in nearly a decade – gaining valuable experience in the Men’s World Cup Qualifiers against stiff opponents.
The competition forms part of the long-term preparations for the water polo setup in the country, as they make strides towards the 2024 LEN European Championship Qualifiers in June, with updates to be provided throughout the tournament.
Speaking on the team selection, Swim England Water Polo Programme Lead Craig Figes gave his thoughts on the challenge that lies ahead.
“We wish the women’s team the best of luck for the upcoming tournament. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the team to play against competition from other areas around the world, and it will give the team valuable experience in an international setting, coming just a couple of months before the senior women head to the LEN European qualifiers.”
The event schedule, results and more are available on the World Aquatics website.
