Last weekend saw the top four men’s and women’s water polo teams travel to Cheltenham for the finals of the British Water Polo Championships.
In the beautiful setting of the Sandford Parks Lido, the two-day event was played out in glorious sunshine. Saturday semi-finals saw Solihull and Cheltenham through to the finals for the men and Manchester and Otter through for the women.
In the women's event Otter went down 8-7 to Manchester in the final. Having trailed for much of the match Manchester had a fantastic last quarter to turn the result around. In the third place match, Liverpool and Coventry drew 6-6, Liverpool edging through 5-4 on penalties to take the Bronze medal.
The British League men's champions Solihull completed a superb double when they defeated Cheltenham 11-5 in the final. After taking an early 3-0 Solihull remained in control for the rest of the match. City of Manchester beat last year’s Champions Lancaster 10-7 to claim third place.
